President Donald Trump closed out the Florida Republican Party’s Freedom Summit in Central Florida with a powerful speech on Saturday night.
Several key Republicans, including some from Florida, spoke about their support of President Trump during their speeches at the GOP event in Kissimmee.
The Florida Republicans favoring Trump over Ron DeSantis included Senator Rick Scott and Representatives Matt Gaetz, Byron Donalds, and Michael Waltz.
“I made the decision because I don’t think there’s any question in my mind: He is the one person running that can really bring strength back to our country,” Sen. Rick Scott said.
“The Make America Great Again movement is ascendant,” Rep. Matt Gaetz added. “Mike Johnson is House Speaker and Donald John Trump will be the next President of the United States.”
For other conservative Florida Republicans, war and foreign policy seem to be at the top of the 2024 political list.
“We had a guy who didn’t want to be in endless wars, he didn’t want that,” Rep. Byron Donalds said. “He didn’t want the American people to be lied to about intelligence. He wanted our troops to be safe. He wanted them to be paid and cared for. But, he also understood that if it were the mullahs in Iran, or anybody else, if they stepped out of line, they got what was coming to them.”
“All of these terrorist groups — Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the militias in Iraq — they were all complaining that they were running out of money…the big money stream from Tehran had all dried up, why? Because President Trump put maximum pressure in place on Iran,” Rep. Michael Waltz said.
Governor Ron DeSantis also spoke at the Freedom Summit in Central Florida and he officially declared his candidacy in the Sunshine State presidential primary. He took the stage with a big “Florida is DeSantis Country” graphic behind him. The Former Republican President clearly did not appreciate that as he declared Florida is Trump Country.
Highlights from President Trump’s speech:
President Trump: “On every policy from the border to energy from immigration to education, Crooked Joe Biden always takes the side that helps America’s enemies, every time…now we know why, because Joe Biden is corrupt, and he’s incompetent, and he’s totally compromised.”
President Trump: “On Day One I will shut down this travesty, terminate all work permits for illegal aliens and demand that Congress send me a bill outlawing all welfare payments to illegal migrants of any kind.”
President Trump: “For four straight years under the Trump Administration, I kept America safe, I kept Israel safe, and I kept the entire world safe…If you spill a drop of American blood, we will spill a gallon of your blood.”
President Trump: “For any radical left charity, non-profit, or so called aid organizations supporting these caravans and illegal aliens, we will prosecute them for their participation in human trafficking, child smuggling, and every other crime we can find.”
President Trump: “Job number one will be to stop the invasion on our Southern border. Terrorists are pouring into our country.”
President Trump: “Crooked Joe puts China first, Russia first, Venezuela first, Ukraine first, illegal aliens first, environmental lunatics first…he puts them ahead of our country, but he puts America last, he puts our workers last, he puts our industries last, he puts your families last…I put America first, every single time.”
