As Election Day nears in the Florida gubernatorial race, former President Barack Obama released a video outlining the high stakes in the state and backing Charlie Crist. Will it help or hurt in former President Donald Trump’s new home state? Can Pres. Obama boost Crist against a popular Governor Ron DeSantis?
The endorsement of Crist, a former Republican turned Democrat, should not a surprise – especially considering his embrace of Pres. Obama helped his own political transformation.
“Florida, we have a lot of work to do and it starts with making Charlie Crist your next governor,” former President Obama said in the video. “Charlie has two things I admire: guts and decency. Charlie Crist is fearless. Guided by what’s right, even when it’s hard. So if you’re ready for a governor who cares about people instead of bullying them, who will fight for voting rights, and a woman’s right to choose, who understands the challenges you’re facing every day, and who will fight for you. Vote for Charlie Crist.”
Former President Obama’s message was released via social media and the Crist campaign said it will also be distributed on digital platforms as part of a radio, text, and robocall campaign to boost fundraising efforts and mobilize supporters and volunteers ahead of the November elections.
