An unarmed man who was shot and killed by police in North Carolina, as he ran toward officers for help, was a former Florida A&M University football player.
Jonathan Ferrell, 24, was shot multiple times when cops say he surprised three Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers by running toward them around 2:00 a.m. Saturday, nydailynews.com reports.
Police say, Ferrell matched the description given by a woman who called 911 moments earlier to report a man had knocked wildly on her front door, trying to get in. Â It is believed that Ferrell was seeking help following a car crash, the paper also reported.
When officers arrived on the scene, Officer Randall Kerrick, 27, quickly reacted by firing his weapon, killing the former FAMU footballer. Â Kerrick was later charged with manslaughter on account of “excessive” force.
