Floridians to protest fast track authority, trade deal

stop_tppFloridians Against the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Central Florida AFL-CIO, Sierra Club Central Florida Group, Communications Workers of America, local 3108, and the Orlando Light Brigade will be demonstrating opposition to “Trade Promotion Authority” and the Trans-Pacific Partnership at 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 12 on Colonial just East of Shine Ave in Orlando.

Fast Track Authority will short circuit a free and informed public debate and undermine the Constitutional process for Treaty ratification. The Constitution calls for the “Advice and Consent” and a 2/3 majority vote by the U.S. Senate. Fast track authorization calls for a Simple Majority vote, limits debate to 20 hours in the House and the Senate, and disallows any amendment to the Treaty.

While The Trans-Pacific Partnership has been in secret negotiations under the guidance of 600 corporate advisors for 5 years, the American people and their elected representatives in Congress have been kept in the dark as to the text of the treaty.  Most Americans are unaware of the existence of the Trans-Pacific Partnership due to the virtual blackout of coverage by the corporate controlled mainstream media.  A web search of Trans-Pacific Partnership, New York Times yields 1 article, an op-ed: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/03/opinion/obamas-covert-trade-deal.html 2013 by Lori Wallach  and Ben Beachy of Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch.

Orlando Mayor, Buddy Dyer, is one of the approximately 600 advisors, yet a web search of his name and the Trans-Pacific Partnership yields no statement or articles. Why the secrecy? Why the silence? (Find Mayor Dyer at approximately #311 on the list:
