Floridians are closely divided over Tea Party favorite Sen. Marco Rubio’s job performance, according to the latest Public Policy Poll released Thursday.
The poll finds that 43% approve of him to 45% who disapprove, similar to what the survey found in March earlier this year. Rubio however, has dropped over the longer term when last September, 51% approved of him and 33 disapproved.
Rubio lost ground with voters over his stance on immigration, although Floridians support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants by 48/35. However, only 21% of voters say they agree with Rubio’s position, compared to 41% who say they disagree.
The survey found that in a hypothetical re-election match up, Rubio holds a narrow lead on Alex Sink, 45/42 and on national Democratic Party chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz 64/43.
Republicans though, should stick with Rubio as opposed to former Tea Party congressman and wingnut Allen West, who last week expressed an interest in a Senate bid. The survey found that West trails Sink 44/38 and Wasserman Schultz 44/40 in a head to head matchup.
The survey was conducted during September 27-29, 2013 among 579 Florida voters and has a margin error of plus or minus 4.1%.
