Florida recorded an unemployment rate of 6.2 percent in June, a slight decrease from the May rate of 6.3 percent, the Department of Economic Opportunity announced Friday.
At 6.2 percent, the jobless rate in Florida is higher than the national rate of 6.1 percent, the first time in more than one year.
Over the month of June, Florida led the nation in creating 36,900 new private-sector jobs. Nonetheless, there are 597,000 Floridians still out of work.
The sectors gaining jobs were leisure and hospitality; trade, transport and utilities; health services; and financial activities, among others.
In Orange County, the unemployment rate was 5.8 percent in June, slightly down from the 5.7 percent recorded the month before.
Walton County had the state’s lowest jobless rate at 3.4 percent, followed by Monroe County with 3.5 percent.
Hendry County recorded the highest unemployment rate in Florida in June, 10.6 percent, followed by Flager County, 8.8 percent.
