Florida’s New Laws Take Effect July 1st

Nearly 200 new laws approved by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Rick Scott take effect today, July 1, 2013, along with the states $74.1 billion budget.

These new laws include the following:

  • HB 609 – Cracks down on cyber bullying in public schools
  • HB 655 – Bars local governments, including Orange County, from requiring employers to offer paid sick time to workers
  • SB 92 – Restricts the use of unmanned aerial drones by law enforcement
  • SB 342 – Allows someone with a homestead exemption to rent their property out for 30 days without losing their homestead exemption.
