No educated Black person with knowledge of African-American history will ever believe that a white skinned man will ever get the death penalty or life in prison for the killing of a Black child. That doesn’t even happen in Hollywood.
Punishing a white skinned person for murdering an unarmed child that was only walking home in the rain would not even be a scene in a redneck horror movie.
Black people, don’t just say what happened to Trayvon Martin can only happen in Florida. To the Black child, every state in the United States is the State of Florida.
Black men, women and children everywhere that followed the George Zimmerman trial have witnessed a modern-day lynching!
This lynching, like many lynchings in the past, was supported by and prompted by white women.
The Gantt Report told you weeks before George Zimmerman was declared not guilty that a Hispanic trying to pass as white would never get a life sentence for shooting and killing an unarmed Black teenager.
Back in the day, racists killed the first Black man they saw when a white woman said she had been disrespected or victimized.
And in 2012, George Zimmerman killed the first Black person he saw that he felt looked like the Black teenagers that home invaded a young white woman!
Racists and bigots have historically been blinded with fear and rage at the idea of a black man with a white woman in a “home invasion” or at any other time. A lynching was most likely to occur in cases where a black man had been convicted of “outraging’ (raping) a white woman, though a lack of conviction did not mean whites presupposed an accused negro’s innocence.
In other words, if a white woman rightfully or wrongfully accuses a Black teenager of a misdeed all Black teenagers immediately become profiled as crime suspects.
African-American journalist and anti-lynching crusader Ida B. Wells wrote in the 1890s that the most prevalent accusation for lynching was murder or attempted murder, followed by a list of infractions that included verbal and physical aggression, spirited business competition and independence of mind. White lynch mobs formed to restore the perceived social order. Lynch mob “policing” usually led to murder of the victims by white mobs. Law-enforcement authorities sometimes participated directly or held suspects in jail until a mob formed to carry out the murder.
It seems to me that the “lynching” of Trayvon Marin occurred on sight.
A 1955 lynching that sparked public outrage about injustice was that of another teen-aged child, Emmett Till, a 14-year-old boy from Chicago. Spending the summer with relatives in Money, Mississippi, Till was killed for allegedly having wolf-whistled at a white woman. Till had been badly beaten, one of his eyes was gouged out, and he was shot in the head before being thrown into the Tallahatchie River, his body weighed down with a 70-pound (32 kg) cotton gin fan tied around his neck with barbed wire. His mother insisted on a public funeral with an open casket, to show people how badly Till’s body had been disfigured.
The white women on the George Zimmerman jury have given racists, rednecks, bigots, skin heads and neo-nazis a blueprint on how to kill Black children or Black adults.
All you have to do is take your keys and make a couple of scratches on your head, take your loaded gun and hit yourself in the nose, hunt down a Black teenager and shoot him in the heart on sight.
And when the police come, just say the child scared you with some candy and a soda so you killed him!
Black people beware, the law is not the same for white litigants and Black litigants. I’m scared is not a good defense when a Black man is accused of killing a white child.
I expect more and more Black people will be murdered in America, not just in Central Florida, using the “lie like Zimmerman did” defense. If you get white women on the jury, it will always work! To “Amy” and “Sally Joe” killing a dog is horrible but killing a Black child is what white men are supposed to do.
I see it like singer Billie Holiday saw it. She saw “Strange Fruit” and I saw “Strange Grass”:
Florida ground bears a strange grass
Blood on the blades and blood on the pass
A child is face down in the rain and the night
‘Cause the man who shot him wanted him to die
