Floridians who are unemployed won’t be able to apply for unemployment insurance benefits beginning Wednesday.
That’s because Florida is switching to a new $63 million computer system called CONNECT.
According to reports, the new system is a major improvement over the current system which has been in place for about 30 years.
The new claims system will not be available for one week, that is, October 15, and people who do not file claims in time may have their payments delayed.
Close to 250,000 people in Florida receive unemployment insurance benefits. In 2011, the state made it a requirement that people filing for unemployment benefits, do so online.
