Florida would lose $88 million in airport construction money if Congress can’t work out and approve new federal aviation legislation, the Obama administration warned on Thursday.
Projects in several states would stop this weekend if a Federal Aviation Administration spending bill isn’t approved, but California and Florida would lose the most.
“If we are not able to fund these projects these people that are working on these projects will have to leave the job site on Saturday,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told reporters in a conference call.
Up to 4,000 FAA employees will also be furloughed if Congress does not act by tonight when current funding authorization expires.
