Republican Florida Senator Marco Rubio is requesting a federal investigation into Planned Parenthood, asking the Department of Justice and Department of Health and Human Services to investigate the matter and prosecute any wrongdoing.
Recently released documents from the Center for Medical Progress show Planned Parenthood has been providing human fetal tissue, obtained from abortions, to the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). The documents show that Planned Parenthood provided the tissue in exchange for the rights to any of the resulting research findings. Current federal law prohibits the transfer of aborted fetal tissue for compensation and can be punishable for up to 10 years in prison.
“Not only was Planned Parenthood providing the aborted fetal tissue in exchange for ‘valuable consideration,’ emails between the groups show that Planned Parenthood and UCSD actively collaborated and met at regular intervals to discuss the progress of the research,” Senator Rubio wrote.
Republican U.S. Senator Marco Rubio sent a letter to U.S. Department of Justice Attorney General Merrick Garland and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General Christi Grimm asking them to investigate the matter and prosecute any wrongdoing.
“I ask that you launch an investigation into USCD and its use of Planned Parenthood’s aborted fetal tissue. Both of these organizations receive hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars every year, and the American people deserve answers,” Senator Rubio wrote.
The Republican Florida Senator also asked how many aborted babies did Planned Parenthood give to UCSD, and what was the fetal tissue used for? He also questioned what has Planned Parenthood gained monetarily from its control over the intellectual property rights of the fetal tissue given to UCSD and how much money has UCSD given to Planned Parenthood ?
