The Florida Senate will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the death of Harriet Tubman, during the opening day of the Florida Legislature on March 5th.

Senator Geraldine Thompson (D-Orlando) will honor the selfless sacrifice of Tubman in Florida by reading, in its entirety, Senate Resolution 430, following which it will be adopted by the full Senate.

“Harriet Tubman, an escaped slave and the conductor of the Underground Railroad, had an expedition in Florida of significant importance during the Civil War, which has not yet been recognized by the State,” Thompson said.  “It is only fitting that we remember and pay tribute to her on this 100th Anniversary of her death.”

Senate President Don Gaetz, fellow Senators, Bishop A. J. Richardson, and community leaders will all participate in the commemoration event.
