Florida, Other States Continue Contraceptive Fight

Florida and six other states are continuing a legal challenge of the federal health overhaul that requires contraceptive coverage in health-care plans, the Associated Press reported.

The states, led by Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning, contend that the Affordable Care Act violates the rights of employers who object to the use of contraceptives, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs, according to AP.

Along with Nebraska and Florida, the other states involved in the lawsuit are Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas.

The U.S. Department of Justice wants the lawsuit, which was filed in Nebraska, to be dismissed.

The U.S. Supreme Court last month upheld the most-controversial part of the federal health law, which will require most Americans to have health coverage in 2014.
