Civil rights attorney and Democratic congressional candidate Natalie Jackson earned the endorsement of the Florida National Organization for Women. Jackson is running for Orlando’s 10th Congressional District to replace Representative Val Demings, who is running for U.S. Senate. In a contested primary, this endorsement provides some momentum to Jackson on key issues for Democratic voters.
“We are proud to endorse Natalie Jackson for Congress,” the Florida National Organization for Women posted.
“Thank you for your endorsement Florida National Organization for Women,” Jackson said. “I will fight to protect reproductive health options, as well other areas of concern to women, such as pregnancy discrimination, employment issues, discrimination against women in the military, sexual harassment and exploitation, lesbian and gay rights, civil rights, sex discrimination in insurance, and ending violence against women.”
Florida NOW says their organization is a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization that takes a holistic approach to women’s rights. “Our priorities are winning economic equality and securing it with an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that will guarantee equal rights for women; championing abortion rights, reproductive freedom and other women’s health issues; opposing racism; fighting bigotry against the LGBTQIA community; and ending violence against women,” the group’s website says.
The Florida NOW PAC said that when endorsing a candidate, “we are affirming to voters, our members, and our donors that we are confident the candidate is aligned with our 6 core issues.”
Those issues relate to constitutional equality, economic justice, freedom from violence, LGBTQ rights, racial justice, and reproductive rights. They also support a national, single-payer healthcare system, and work on wide-ranging women’s concerns.
There are a lot of Democrats trying to replace Rep. Demings in Congress in addition to Natalie Jackson, including qualified candidates: former Rep. Alan Grayson, former Rep. Corrine Brown, Maxwell Alejandro Frost, Randolph Bracy, Terrance Gray, Teresa Tachon, Khalid Muneer, Jack Achenbach, and Jeffrey Boone.
