The Florida Department of Health confirmed a new case of fungal meningitis associated with contaminated steroid injections, bringing the total count in the state to 19.
The new case is a 66-year-old woman who received treatment from the Florida Pain Clinic in Marion County. Last week, DOH confirmed thirteen people had been injected with the contaminated drug.
So far, three people have died from the contaminated steroid injections that came from the New England Compounding Center (NECC). The latest victim was a 78-year-old man in Marion County. He died as a result of an injection from one of the contaminated steroid injections used for epidural back injections.
Nationwide, the number of cases of fungal meningitis related to contaminated steroid injections is 297 with 23 deaths across the states.
