Florida Man Looking for Parking Space, Instead Found Machete in His Face

South Florida law enforcement is seeking help from the community regarding a situation where a man looking for a parking space instead found a machete in his face.

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit have now released surveillance video of an aggravated assault that occurred in Oakland Park back in August.

The incident occurred at approximately 12pm on Saturday, August 5th, in the parking lot of a Family Dollar located at 2901 West Oakland Park Boulevard. When BSO deputies responded, the victim told investigators that while trying to park in reverse a Nissan Titan with three occupants stopped in front of his vehicle. The victim told detectives he told the driver of the Nissan to “Calm down, give me a second to park.”

The surveillance video shows the driver of the Nissan exiting with one of the passengers. Both men approached the victim’s driver door and started to yell. According to the victim, the driver of the Nissan took a machete from his vehicle and began to scream expletives, threatening him while pulling the victim’s door handle. Moments later, both subjects got back in the Nissan and fled the area.

The driver is described as a 30-year-old male, thin build, wearing a grey long sleeve shirt and khaki pants. The passenger is described as a tall male, medium build with long hair wearing a black shirt, a black hat and black pants. The third passenger never exited the vehicle.

South Florida detectives are asking anyone with information on the subject’s identity or whereabouts to contact VCU Detective Lacey Fitzpatrick at 954-722-5803 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or dial **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States.
