Over the past three years, more than 1,400 families in Central Florida have committed to make a radical lifestyle change in order to help them live longer, healthier lives. The Healthy 100 Kids program at Florida Hospital for Children is celebrating not only the anniversary of the program but the success of the patients and families.
“We are so excited to see that families are embracing this program and making positive changes in their behaviors,” said Dr. Angela Fals, medical director of the Healthy 100 Kids program. “Not only are patients reducing their blood pressure and body fat percentages, they are also increasing sleep and family activity time together.”
In addition to celebrating the anniversary of the program, Healthy 100 Kids is also celebrating the milestones of the patients and families that are making big changes in their life. Here are just a few milestones:
- BMI percentile improved or maintained in 92% of patients
- Blood pressure percentile improved or maintained in 73% of patients
- Screen Time improved or maintained in 78% of patients
- Sleep time improved or maintained in 62% of patients
- Family activity improved or maintained in 75% of families
- Percentage of body fat improved or maintained in 63% of patients
- Fruit and vegetable consumption increased or maintained in 84% of patients
“During the past three years I have seen a big change in my daughter’s overall health, especially now that she is becoming a teenager,” said CarolAnn Inbornone, parent to 13-year-old Anecia.”The team at Healthy 100 Kids has really made us aware of a variety of factors that we can change to help keep our family healthier, such as smaller portions and being more active as a family.”
To celebrate the three-year anniversary, Healthy 100 Kids hosted an innovative workshop featuring retired NFL player, Ernest Graham, of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kids and their families had the unique opportunity to participate in an obstacle course with Ernest Graham as well as practice their gardening skills.
“I loved being out here and sharing a positive message about being active with the kids and families in the Healthy 100 Kids program,” said Earnest Graham, retired NFL player from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “I want them to know you don’t have to be an athlete to go outside and be active. Something as simple as doing relay races with their friends can be a great way to stay active and have fun.”
