Feds Open Up Yard Sale on Unused Florida Properties

Billions of taxpayer dollars are wasted every year on government properties that are no longer needed.

President Barack Obama has proposed a Civilian Property Realignment Board to help the Federal Government cut through red tape and politics to sell or get rid of property it no longer needs, saving about $15 billion over the next three years.

Florida has about 46 federally-owned properties that are up for sale, including the following locations:

3 in Fort Lauderdale
11 in Miami Dade
5 in Homestead
1 in Key Largo
12 in Flamingo
1 in Ochopee
4 in Titusville
1 in Altoona
1 in Cystal River
2 in Jacksonville

The properties range from sheds to underutilized office buildings and empty warehouses.

California has the greatest number of federal properties for sale: 1,151.
