Florida Governor DeSantis Appointed Members to State Board of Education

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed three members to the State Board of Education.




The Republican Florida Governor recently announced the appointment of Erika Fritz-Ochs and Luis Fuste and the reappointment of Dr. Grazie Christie to the State Board of Education.

The mission of the State Board of Education is to increase the proficiency of all students within one seamless, efficient system, by providing them with the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills through learning opportunities and research valued by students, parents, and communities.

Erika Fritz-Ochs is the Program Manager of the University of Florida’s Lastinger Center for Learning. Previously she served as an Educational Policy Consultant for the Florida Department of Education, a Research and Training Specialist for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and a Teacher for Leon County Schools and Pasco County Schools. Fritz-Ochs earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from Saint Leo University and her master’s degree in elementary education and teaching from Nova Southeastern University.

Luis Fuste is an Attorney at Fuste Law, P.A. Active in his community, he has served as a member of the Little Bear Big Heart, Inc. Board of Directors, the Doral College Board of Trustees, the Florida Commission on Ethics, and the Board of Chiropractic Medicine. Fuste earned his bachelor’s degree from Barry University and his juris doctor from Florida International University.

Dr. Grazie Christie is a self-employed Radiologist in the Miami area with 25 years of experience in radiology and diagnostics. Active in her community, she serves as a member of Americans United for Life. Dr. Christie earned her bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Miami.




According to the state, the Board of Education maintains an accountability system that measures student progress toward the following goals: highest student achievement, seamless articulation and maximum access, skilled workforce and economic development, and quality efficient services.

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
