The Florida Republican State Legislative Committee will spend $6 million on recruiting and electing women and minorities to state offices in 2014, top GOP officials said.

The announcement comes as the GOP wrapped up a strategy and goal-setting Summit for the 2014 election, in Austin, Texas.

“We need to do a better job of having a sustained conversation with the men and women of all backgrounds in our communities — not only telling them to run but offering to help,” said Rep. Jose Felix Diaz  (R-Miami), one of the speakers at the Conference told reporters.

The effort to elect Republican women to statewide office will be led Attorney General Pam Bondi and co-chaired by Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto, R-Fort Myers.

“We want to get people to the state house and state senate: Those are the first steps of the political escalator for people to ride,” Ed Gillespie, the RSLC chairman said. “And we want to have a pipeline of great-quality candidates to run for higher office.”
