A Florida deputy was found guilty and the local Sheriff responded.
St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Deputy Arthur Alfaro was recently found guilty of Driving Under the Influence – Unlawful Breath Alcohol Level .08 or More, according to local law enforcement.
St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard R. Del Toro, Jr. issued this statement on the matter:
“The judicial process has now reached its conclusion, and we respect the decision of the court. As a law enforcement agency, we expect our employees to uphold the law and the standards of conduct entrusted to them by the people we serve.
“With the criminal case now resolved, the Sheriff’s Office’s Internal Affairs investigation will proceed through its established administrative process. This is a separate process from the criminal case and will determine whether Deputy Alfaro’s conduct violated agency policies or standards. Deputy Alfaro remains on unpaid administrative leave while that process moves forward.
“Accountability applies to everyone, regardless of rank or position. As Sheriff, I have a responsibility to ensure that our members are held to the standards we expect of them and that these matters are handled fairly, thoroughly, and consistent with established procedure. We will allow the administrative process to run its course and take appropriate action based on its findings.”
