Florida Dems Breaking Own Rules Again, Further Dividing Party Ahead of Primaries

In a just released video, the Florida Democratic Party (FDP) has opted to take sides in local Democratic primary elections in several races, including one in Orlando.

The unrepresentative faces of Florida Democratic Party candidates

Against their own rules, the FDP has put up a video on floridadems.org and their YouTube page supporting hand-picked candidates in contested primaries.

The Florida Democratic Party attempts to highlight their “diversity” with a very white cast that doesn’t really mesh with the landscape in Florida these days, nor does it reflect the talent actually running under the Democratic Party this year.

But one of the featured candidates is Joe Saunders for Florida House District 49. Saunders himself appears in the video several times and at one point introduces himself saying, “A community organizer from Orange County.”

Now, there is another perfectly qualified Democratic candidate running for House District 49, Shayan Elahi, a well-known and popular civil rights attorney. But you won’t know this from the video, as he isn’t mentioned. You also won’t hear from primary challengers in other races despite their opponents being hand-picked by FDP to appear. These candidates are Aaron Bosshardt from Gainesville, Jose Rodriguez from Miami and Mary Louise Ambrose from Belleaire Bluffs.

This is what the Florida Democratic Party does best–they are hypocrites, unprofessional and unethical. It’s a state party that has lacked any proper leadership for years and that’s why they lose more often than not. And sadly, it’s nothing new under Rod Smith’s FDP. But what can we expect locally, where this issue has become yet another firestorm in the local DEC.

Former Chairman of the Orange County Democratic Party, Doug Head is so upset with the hypocrisy, he fired off a chain of e-mails and online messages calling the actions of the FDP “improper, unethical and underhanded.” Head also called on Scott Randolph, current Chair of the Orange County Democratic Party to “intervene immediately,” and put a stop to it.

“If our candidates are picked in an unethical process, in violation of our Party rules regarding Primaries, we are going to have a very tough time in the General Election,” Head wrote.

No response yet from the Randolph but there is an Orange County Democratic Party meeting Monday night where it will surely be an issue.   Randolph sat silent when the FDP did the same thing in Orlando’s municipal elections.

Perhaps Florida Democrats really deserve to have a tough time, after all.

  1. The new Central Florida Congressional was fought by and for Boricuas/Latinos so that we could have a voice in Congress.

  2. This website is officially a joke. This website is not news, it is simply a platform for Mike Cantone to further his own political agenda. This is beyond pathetic.
