Florida Democrats Celebrate Successful First Week of Take Back Florida Tour

Hundreds of Democrats joined Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried to launch the “Take Back Florida” tour on the first stops in Volusia, Orange and Seminole counties. The FDP Chair pledged to organize and win in Central Florida.

Beginning in DeLand, the party was greeted by a packed house of Volusia County Democrats. FDP Chair Nikki Fried fired up the crowd with a speech highlighting the importance of competing in areas of the state — including Volusia County — that have recently voted Republican.

In Orlando, FDP Chair Fried held a press conference laying out the month-long tour schedule that will stop in 18 counties in every corner of the state over the next 30 days. She was joined by Congressman Maxwell Frost, Orange County State Representatives Anna Eskamani and LaVon Bracy Davis, and Orange-Osceola County State Attorney Monique Worrell. State Senate candidate Carlos Guillermo Smith was also in attendance.

The tour continued with a stop in House District 35, where a special election will be held on January 16th, 2024. Over 150 Democrats gathered to hear from candidates for that seat and commit to volunteering in this key election.

“We’ve already knocked on 2,000 doors in this district [35] to get people to register for vote by mail and we’re doing that every two weeks… this seat is not going to flip itself, we’re going to flip it together,” said Samuel Vilchez, Orange County Democrats Vice Chair.

The Seminole County Democrats hosted the week’s final stop in Longwood, where party activists heard from two hopeful rising stars, Sarah Henry and Nate Douglas who are running in competitive House Districts in Central Florida.

“No matter what they say in Tallahassee, we can fix these problems and we will fix these problems right here in Seminole County with the help of Nikki Fried, our Democratic Party Chair,” said Nate Douglas.

The Take Back Florida Tour will continue next week with stops in Miami Gardens, Miami, West Palm Beach, and Port St. Lucie.
