A Florida Democrat responded to an alert from Republicans that she was missing.
South Florida Democratic Congresswoman Frederica Wilson currently represents parts of Miami-Dade County and Broward County.
The 83-year-old Florida Democrat missed 40+ votes on House floor.
Florida Republicans put Congresswoman Frederica Wilson on a milk carton stating she was missing. “We hope she is doing well and will provide an update soon for the people of Florida’s 24th district,” the Republican Party of Florida posted.
Rep. Wilson did finally respond stating she had eye surgery which was preventing her from being in Washington D.C. during that time, but she was active in South Florida and planned to return to Washington.
“Following left eye surgery, my priority has been ensuring a full and responsible recovery. Although I am currently unable to fly under my doctors’ orders, my work has not stopped for a single day,” Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson stated.
She represents a heavily Democratic district and Republicans are not running a competitive challenger against her in her, but her congressional absence being spotlighted is making some Democrats question why she continues to run for reelection.
Rep. Frederica Wilson has an extensive political career. As an educator, she constantly highlighted the need for students to learn about the world and work to improve it, which eventually led her to run for the Miami-Dade County School Board in 1992. She won seats in the Florida House of Representatives in 1998 and the State Senate in 2002, where her peers elected her Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore and Minority Whip. The Florida lawmaker was considered the “Conscience of the Senate” based on her drive to improve life for low-income families and individuals. Recognizing her record of service and productivity, in 2010 voters overwhelmingly elected her to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
And despite the Republicans’ missing alert, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson is not done.
