Gov. Rick Scott is challenging tourism marketers to grow the number of visitors to the Sunshine state to 100 million, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Scott’s 100 million figure likely came from a recent study undertaken by Florida Tax Watch whose analysis suggests that, attaining this goal would create 121,298 jobs – fifty percent in the tourism sector and the other half in the retail and construction sectors, the paper also reported.
Last year, Florida attracted 91.5 million travelers and over the past decade visitor arrivals have grown on average by 2.4 percent, notwithstanding the Great Recession.
