Flag Football completes perfect regular season; Women’s Track 2nd at District Championship

Quarterback Ashley Diedrich tossed four touchdown passes and Daija Phillips returned an interception for a touchdown as Flag Football routed visiting West Orange, 33-6, in the regular season finale. DP (12-0) completed its second perfect regular season (2010) and will look to capture its third consecutive District title and seventh in the last nine years when tournament play begins Monday night at 6:00  at Oak Ridge. DP will play Freedom in the first semifinal with host Oak Ridge facing Olympia in the nightcap. The District Championship game will be Wednesday night at 7:00.

Up at Lake Mary, Women’s Tack and Field came home with the District Runner-up trophy, finishing with 108 points, tied with Olympia, and just two points shy of first place West Orange. Bridget Blake earned gold medals in both the 1660m (5:14.80) and the 3200m (11:35.41) while freshman Teahna Daniels took the gold in the 100m (12.18) and the silver in the 200m (25.41). Sophomore Marly Joseph earned the silver in the 400m (1:00.67), sophomore Kira Myers was a silver medalist in pole vault (8’6”) and Melissa Timot was a double medlaist with a  silver in the discus (90’4”) and bronze in shot put (28’3.75”). The 4 x 800m relay team of Virnaliz TrinidadBridget BlakeAnnais Pena and Amber Johnson finished in 9:46.70, good for the silver medal, and Amber Johnson earned the bronze in the 3200m at 11:54.24. Johnson also qualified for next week’s Regional Championship with a fourth place finish in the 1600m at 5:16.31.

Senior A.J. Cunningham took home gold medals in both the 1600m (4:33.48) and the 3200m (10:07.41) and sprinter Reggie Glover struck gold in the 400m (47.99) and bronze in the 200m (22.10) as Men’s Track and Field placed fourth at the District Championship in Lake Mary. Senior Tobias Durham won the silver in the 300m hurdles (40.48) and the bronze in the triple jump (42’10”) and also qualified for the Regional Championship in the 110h with a fourth place finish in 15.26. Senior Aquarious Workman earned three bronze medals, placing third in the long jump (20’3.5”), 110m hurdles (15.11) and the 300m hurdles (40.73).  DP’s 4 x 100m relay team also earned the bronze medal with a time of 45.04. All top four finishers qualify for the Regional Championship next Thursday at Flagler Palm Coast.
