Fl Citrus Crop Could Suffer Millions in Damages from Cold Weather

Florida’s frigid temperatures over the past two days is causing further damage to its vegetable and citrus crops.

Crops like tomato, pepper, squash and egg plant were wiped out with the drop in Monday night’s temperatures, reports wusf.usf.edu.

Temperatures reached as low as 28 degrees in several regions across the state.

It is the second time for the month that the state has faced freezing temperatures, further compounding the negative impact on the vegetable and citrus industries.

Farmers and state officials would be assessing the losses over the coming days.

The Florida citrus industry creates a $9 billion annual economic impact and employs nearly 76,000 people.
