Rep. Gabby Giffords’ office released the first photos since the congresswoman was shot in the head last Saturday as she held a “Congress on Your Corner” event outside a Safeway supermarket in Tucson. The photos show husband, NASA astronaut, Mark Kelly holding Giffords’ hand.
Giffords, 40, was critically injured from a bullet that went “through and through” her head.
Dr. Peter Rhee, one of Giffords’ doctors said on Tuesday while the congresswoman remains in critical condition, she has a “101 percent change of surviving. She will not die.”
In the shooting rampage, six persons were killed, including Tucson’s Chief federal Judge John Roll and a 9-year-old girl, Christina Greene.
A lone gunman, Jared L. Loughner, 22 years, is suspected of carrying out the massacre.
Loughner appeared briefly in a Phoenix court on Monday, January 10, 2011, charged with five federal counts–one count of attempting to kill a member of congress, two counts of killing two employees of the U.S. government and two counts of intending to kill two employees of the U.S. government.
