Orange County Commission candidate Betsy VanderLey announced the endorsement of Orange County Fire Fighters in her bid to become the new District 1 Commissioner.
“We feel that you represent the same views we do for the fire services future as well as the district as a whole,” the Orange County Professional Fire Fighters endorsement letter said to VanderLey. “We appreciate all the help you have already given to the members of Local 2057.”
“I am humbled and honored to receive the endorsement of the Orange County Professional Fire Fighters Local 2057,” VanderLey said. “These local heroes work tirelessly every day to keep our community safe and have dedicated their lives in the name of service. Thank you for trusting me to lead District 1.”
VanderLey’s campaign describes the candidate as “a businesswoman who leads, a neighbor who cares.” She is facing off against Winter Garden Commissioner Robert “Bobby O” Olszewski, who has met the requirement to qualify by petition, as well as Nuren Haider and Usha Jain, who have both filed to run.
VanderLey had raised more than $120,000 by the end of February for the Orange County Commission race. Olszewski had raised more than $50,000, while Haider only raised around $2,000 and Jain has not raised any money in the same period.
