Fifth Third Bank recently partnered with the Downtown Arts District and its Young Artists Group to paint a mural commemorating the bank’s annual Summer of Dreams program. The mural is located on the 10th floor of Fifth Third’s regional corporate office at Lake Eola which is within the boundaries of Orlando’s Downtown Arts District.
“This mural serves as an ongoing reminder of our commitment to ending child hunger and homelessness throughout Central Florida,” said Karen Dee, president of the Florida and Mid-South Regions for Fifth Third Bank. “Through our public-private partnership with supporters like the city of Orlando and the Downtown Arts District, we can provide homeless students and their families with the resources they need.”
During the 10-week Summer of Dreams program, children receive meals, academic enrichment, mentoring and school supplies. Financial counseling is also available for families.
Heather Younger worked with the Young Artists Group to design the mural concept, while German Lemus completed the drawing and guided eight young artists, ages 15-21, who painted the wall and brought the scene to life. The mural art depicts a safe environment for kids, food security, financial literacy, education and fun – all the pillars of the Summer of Dreams program.
“The Young Artists Group and Summer of Dreams are a natural connection,” said David Wheeler, who chairs the Downtown Arts District’s board of directors. “Both provide students with education, adult leadership and a safe place to pursue creative outlets. Through the work of programs like these, we are making a difference in our community.”
