A woman was killed on Sunday morning when a driver, heading in the wrong direction on the Florida Turnpike, crashed head on into the vehicle she was driving.
36-year-old Tammy Bryan, of Ocala, died on the spot, after a Toyota pick-up collided head on with the BMW she was driving, near mile marker 274.
Troopers say, 24-year-old Lewis Fontana, of Winter Garden, the driver of the pick-up was heading southbound on the Turnpike, in the northbound lanes.
Bryan was traveling northbound on the Turnpike, in a 1995 BMW, when the crash occurred around 4:10 a.m. on Sunday. She was pronounced on the scene by the medical examiner.
Fontana and his passenger, 40-year-old Drayson Edwards, of Clermont, were seriously injured in the crash. Both were transported to the the Orlando Regional Medical Center.
FHP said, charges are pending.
In a separate wrong-way crash, a Merritt Island driver died, after colliding head-on with a Chevy pick-up on State Road 520, in Brevard County.
Robert Houghton, 55, of Merritt Island, was pronounced dead on the scene near Myrtice Avenue, just after 12:30 a.m., on Sunday.
Troopers say, for an unknown reason, Houghton was traveling eastbound on State Road 520, in the westbound lanes.
The 2003 Chevy SUV Houghton was driving, collided with Timothy Scott Key, 40, of Rockledge, who was heading westbound on State Road 520. Key was driving a 2003 Chevy pick-up.
Houghton died on the spot.
A passenger traveling with Houghton, 54-year-old Helen Rhodes, of Cocoa, was taken to the Holmes Regional Hospital, with serious injuries.
Key also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Holmes.
Toxicology results are being awaited to determine whether alcohol might have played a role in both crashes.
Troopers said, this crash, also remains under investigation.
