Hundreds of thousands of Floridians and visitors are expected to crowd in Brevard County to watch the final shuttle launch of Endeavour on Friday and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is urging everyone to allot plenty of travel time.
FHP will have extra troopers on duty for Friday’s launch, but traffic delays are expected. Road Rangers have been assigned in the area to help with vehicles that made need assistance with mechanical problems. Drivers can expect traffic delays on SR 528, I-95, SR 50, SR 46, US-1 and US-192.
“Plan ahead. Make sure you have plenty of time to reach your destination and consider alternative routes on less congested routes. Pack your patience and a full tank of gas. Snacks and activities for children may keep stress at bay for everyone in the car,” a statement from FHP said.
FHP reminds motorists that it is dangerous and illegal to stop and park on the side of a limited access highway (I-95, Beachline, I-4) to view the launch. Troopers will monitor the roadways to discourage drivers from illegally stopping.
“Know that it is against the law to drive through the median on these roadways. This practice and the latter have been observed in previous launches and are extremely dangerous,” the statement added.
