The driver of a Jeep Cherokee and his passenger were killed on County Road 201, in Volusia County, Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said, 30-year-old Vincent F. Taaffe, of Deland and his passenger, Justin T. Head, 31, of Everson, WA, died on the spot . Troopers also say, Taaffe failed to negotiate a curve and the 2004 Jeep Cherokee went onto the shoulder, struck road signs, before hitting a large tree.
The crash occurred just before 3:30 a.m., as Taaffe was approaching the right hand curve to County Road 202 or the Walter Boardman Lane in Volusia County.
Toxicology results are being awaited to determine whether or not alcohol played a role in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, troopers said.
