FHP: Traffic Fatalities Increase Over Thanksgiving Weekend

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said on Monday that 1,293 tickets were issued to drivers in Central Florida over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  Of those tickets, 502 were speeding ticket violations.

FHP also reported that 346 crashes were investigated, with five (5) of those being fatal and more than twice the number of fatal crashes that occurred last year.  In 2009, there were two (2) fatal crashes in Central Florida over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The statistics on issued tickets, DUIs and fatal crashes state-wide are still being compiled and not yet available.
