A teenager who was walking north on State Road 15, after being involved earlier in a car crash, was struck and killed by another vehicle, Florida Highway Patrol said.
The unnamed 19-year-old male from Deleon Springs died on the spot on Sunday night just before 8:00 p.m.
Troopers say, Jaime Aguilar Rios, 44, of DeLand, was traveling southbound in a 1992 Dodge Dakota, on S.R. 15, approaching stopped traffic near Hagstrom Road in Volusia County.
Rios failed to observe the stopped traffic and steered to the right shoulder and struck the unnamed teen, who ran westerly onto the grass shoulder.
Rios was arrested for valid driver’s license. He was charged with careless driving.
Toxicology results are being awaited to determine whether alcohol played in this fatal crash.
