FHP: Teen Driver Killed in Crash after Losing Control of Vehicle

A teenager was killed early on Thursday morning in Lake County, after he lost control of her vehicle and it struck a tree, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Mario Novoa Gomez, 18, of Groveland, was pronounced dead on the spot by the medical examiner. The crash occurred just before 4:00 a.m.

Gomez was headed north on CR 565 (Villa City Road) near Lucy Lee Road, when he failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway and traveled straight across in the southbound lane of CR 565.

Troopers said, the 2010 Ford Mustan entered the west shoulder and sideswiped a tree. Gomez’ vehicle then rotated, continued north, striking another tree.

Gomez died on the spot.

A passenger with Gomez, 19-year-old Timothy Delong, also of Groveland, suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash.

The investigation into the crash continues, troopers said.
