FHP: Passenger who Survived Pick-Up Crash, Killed in Hit-and-Run

A man who was a passenger in a pick-up truck crash in which a motorcyclist was killed on State Road 415, later died when he was struck in the roadway by a hit-and-run driver, Florida Highway Patrol said.

34-year-old James. M. Ledford, of Lake Monroe was killed on Monday just after 12:30 am, after he exited the pick-up truck in which a motorcyclist had crashed head-on.

Troopers believe that Ledford was either standing or kneeling completely down in the northbound lane of SR 415, south of Reed Ellis Road in Volusia, when he was struck and killed by an unknown vehicle.

The unknown vehicle swerved to avoid the roadblock crash and struck Ledford, but the vehicle did not stop.

Ledford was transported to the Central Florida Regional where he later died.

Troopers said, neither the hit-and-run driver or the vehicle has yet been identified.

Florida Highway Patrol said that the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Anyone with information about the unknown vehicle should contact FHP at # 407-737-2213.
