FHP: Boy Run Over by Pickup Seriously Injured

An 8-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after being run over by a pickup on Thursday morning while attempting to cross the road near Powers Drive, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said.

According to troopers, Alisa Owens, 22, was driving a pick-up east near the intersection of Denson Drive and Powers Drive in Orange County, when she encountered Ramon Belton, 8, who was attempting to cross Denson Drive.  Owens swerved but was unable to avoid hitting Belton and running him over before coming to a stop.

Eye witnesses told troopers that Belton was already attempting to cross the road as the pickup approached and Owens failed to react until just prior to striking the child.

Owens was issued a ticket for careless driving.  Along with her one-year-old son, who was traveling with her, both were unhurt.

Belton was taken to the Arnold Palmer Hospital with serious injuries.
