A 14-year-old school boy sustained serious injuries after being struck in a crosswalk on Rhode Island Avenue on Tuesday morning in Volusia County.
The accident occurred around 6:45 a.m.
Troopers said, Geeta Laloo, 48, of Palm Coast, was traveling westbound on Rhode Island Avenue, near Carpenter Avenue, when she struck 14-year-old Zachary Buckert, of Orange City.
Zachary was attempting to cross Rhode Island Avenue in a marked crosswalk, Florida Highway Patrol said.
The front of Laloo’s Hyundai struck Zachary, who was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center, with serious injuries.
Laloo was ticketed for violation of a right of way to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.
