Senator Marco Rubio introduced federal legislation to repair several of Florida’s coastal military installations which suffer from shoreline erosion and storm damage.
Republican Florida Senator Marco Rubio introduced the Military Installation Shoreline Protection Act to make repair funding for these damages easier and quicker to access.
Currently, there are limited options to address such shoreline erosion and storm damages. Senator Rubio pointed out that pursuing funding through the formal military construction process can often take several years before an installation can fully repair its shoreline.
The damages, in the meantime, may reduce the installations’ effectiveness in carrying out their mission.
“Our military needs to be mission-ready at all times,” said Senator Marco Rubio. “Along the coast, many of our military installations are dealing with damage that can’t wait for years of red tape in order to be fixed. My Military Installation Shoreline Protection Act would allow issues to be addressed in a more timely manner.”
