Father who Rocked Baby Son “Rough”, Charged with Child Abuse

A Lakeland man was arrested on Thursday, charged with child abuse after his three-month-old baby boy suffered a head injury which left him in a vegetative state.

22-year-old Tylon Tully, of 929 N. Gilmore, has been charged with aggravated child abuse and intentional infliction of physical harm, Lakeland Police said.

Tully told investigators on February 9, 2011, he was taking care of his son, Romeo Tully, 3 years, when he became irritated that the baby would not stop crying. He said, he rocked baby Tully “rough” for approximately 10 to 12 minutes, as the infant sat in his car seat.  Tully told police the baby continue to cry and his head was bouncing in the car seat without a head card.

Tully said he called Emergency Services when the baby lost consciousness.

Baby Tully was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.   It was subsequently determined that Baby Tully suffered a traumatic brain injury that has left him in a state of vegetation.  He is currently in a specialized care foster home.

Police said, this case remains under investigation.
