Fatal Train Crash Involving Pedestrian in Central Florida

A recent fatal train crash involving a pedestrian in Central Florida is under investigation.




On January 11th, at 3:52pm, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call about a man being struck by an Amtrak train near Sydney Dover Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Dover.

When deputies arrived, they located a deceased male, 53-year-old Andres Pop-Tupil.

CSX Police and Amtrak investigators also responded to the scene. The train was traveling eastbound when Pop-Tupil was walking across the railroad tracks when he was struck.

“My heart goes out to the family and friends who lost their loved one,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This tragic accident reminds us all to be overly cautious around railroad tracks.”

This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
