FAMU Wants Champion Hazing Death Lawsuit Tossed

Robert Champion

Attorneys for FAMU plan to ask a judge to throw out the wrongful death lawsuit brought by Robert Champion’s family against the university, according to news reports.

Champion, 26, died in Orlando in November 2011, following a hazing incident. His death was ruled a homicide by the Medical Examiner.

The university claims Champion knew that the hazing ritual in which he participated was illegal, but yet he did so anyway.

FAMU recently offered the Champion family $300,000 to settle, but the family refused calling the offer “insulting,” according to reports.

No word on when the judge will rule on the matter.
