False Kidnapping, Robbery Scheme Ends with Two Arrests

Steven Pruit (l) Trevor Stillwell (r)

A man who told investigators he was kidnapped and robbed at gunpoint, was arrested on Friday for making up the the story.

Brevard County deputies say, 20-year-old Steven Pruit, of St. John, fabricated his own kidnapping to obtain money from his mother’s bank account. He had also enlisted 19-year-old St. John resident Trevor Stillwell, to assist him with the scheme.

Last Tuesday, investigators were called to a parking lot of a convenience store on Fay Boulevard in Port St. John, to investigate a robbery and kidnapping.

Pruit told deputies he was forced at gun-point to go to an area bank and withdraw cash from the ATM. He also said he was forced to drive to a remote area, where the suspect fled on foot.

Deputies determined that the robbery and kidnapping never occurred.

Pruit was arrested and charged with providing false information to a law enforcement officer and misuse of the 911 system.

Stillwell was also arrested and charged with misuse of the 911 system.

Both Pruit and Stillwell were booked into the Brevard County Jail.
