Ex-GOP Boss Admits Party is Racist

One should not give too much credence to corrupt politicians, but Florida ex-GOP chairman Jim Greer yesterday apologized to President Obama one year after strongly denouncing the president’s plans to give a back-to-school address to students.

Greer, in a written statement on Tuesday apologized to the president for his opposition to his speech last year, indicating he had bowed to the racist views within the GOP, as he sought to placate the extremists within the party.

In part Greer said, “In the year since I issued a prepared statement regarding President Obama speaking to the nation’s schoolchildren, I have learned a great deal about the party I so deeply loved and served,” Greer said in a written statement. “Unfortunately, I found that many within the GOP have racist views and I apologize to the President for my opposition to his speech last year and my efforts to placate the extremists who dominate our party today. My children and I look forward to the president’s speech.”

One year ago, then GOP party chairman Greer caused a nation-wide furor garnering much support from right-wing extremists when he said that Mr. Obama’s real motive for addressing school children was to indoctrinate them with his “socialist ideology.”   He went on to state that, the president was “using our children as tools to spread liberal propaganda.”

Last month, Greer along similar lines, in a letter to Gov. Charlie Crist, asking back for his nearly $10,000 contribution, called out the current Florida Republican Party leadership, including Attorney General Bill McCollum, current party chairman, John Thrasher, and many state committee members, saying they were “simply liars, racists and extremists”.

Of course, Greer, who is now disgraced, is currently charged with six felony counts of grand theft, money laundering and attempted fraud and is set to go on trial after the November 2nd general elections, early next year. But, but there is no doubt that Greer is onto something as, time and again, racist incidents on the part of the Republican Party continue to play out all across the nation, including Florida’s Sunshine State.
