On Friday, an Orange County jury convicted a former Florida A & M University band member, Dante Martin, in the hazing death of drum major Robert Champion.
After deliberating for a short time, the jury found Martin, 27, guilty of manslaughter and felony hazing in Champion’s death, Local 6 reported.
Champion died three years ago, after being kicked and pummeled by his fellow band members on a bus in Orlando.
Prosecutors described the pummeling as an organized ritual known as “Crossing Bus C.”
Martin’s charges carry a punishment of up to 15 years in prison.
Several other former band members involved in Champion’s hazing death pleaded guilty to lesser charges.
