A 24-year-old man told deputies he killed his 59-year-old ex-girlfriend because she was verbally abusive to him.
Scott Stuut, 24, was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with murder and armed burglary and is being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
Investigators said, Margaret Gee, 59, of Deland, was found dead on the evening of March 2, in her bedroom at 88 Melodie Lane. Her body was discovered by a couple to whom she rented part of her house.
The couple told police that they had left their 19-month-old son at the house with Gee and when they returned found her dead in her bed. The child was unharmed.
Stuut initially told investigators he couldn’t remember what happened on the night of March 2, as he had blacked out, but did tell detectives he was in the area. Subsequently, admitted to knocking on Gee’s front door but left after there was no answer.
Stuut later confessed to detectives saying, he went to Gee’s house, knocked on the door and let himself in. He then walked passed the toddler’s crib and proceeded to Gee’s bedroom where he attacked her. When Gee fought back, he shot her.
Investigators said, during questioning, Stuut blamed Gee for his personal hardships. Stuut also told detectives he killed Gee because she had been verbally abusive toward him.
Stuut was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on Tuesday. He has been charged with first degree murder and armed burglary and is being held without bond.
