Evans High School AVID Seniors Explore UCF

Evans High School AVID Seniors at University of Central Florida, September 1, 2011

About 40 students from Evans High School visited the University of Central Florida (UCF) for a campus tour Thursday.

The students are seniors who participate in Evans’ Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), an elective class that provides support for students through curricular and mentoring activities.

Throughout the day, the AVID seniors were able to ask questions of the UCF Admissions Counselor and receive answers concerning that University’s appplication process. The students also visited various faculty buildings on campus, including the Students Union.

“The AVID Seniors left this field trip more knowledgeable and motivated to work even harder to get into their college of choice,”  said Jamie Newcomer, AVID Coordinator.

Designed for the “middle” student, the AVID program aims to ensure that all students succeed in a rigorous curriculum, complete a college-preparatory path and become educated, responsible and productive members of society.  All AVID students and parents sign the AVID Contract, which outlines program requirements and expectations, each school year.
