Escaped Juvenile Inmate in Central Florida to Face Additional Charges

An escaped juvenile inmate in Central Florida who was in custody for the murder of a 14-year-old will face additional charges after being caught.

After being arrested in Tampa, Jahmir Moore escaped from a juvenile detention center.

Moore is now charged with one felony count of Escape From a Juvenile Detention Facility in addition to his previous charges.

The preliminary investigation found that earlier this month, just days after being arrested, Moore and other inmates were outside in the fenced recreational area at approximately 10:33am.

Upon returning inside the building, it was determined during the headcount Moore did not return inside.

The Tampa Police Department began an immediate search once notified that Moore was missing.

Around 9:15pm, Moore was arrested on the 100-block of West Keyes Avenue by Tampa Police with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

Moore was initially arrested this month for charges in connection to the death of 14-year-old Jevario Buie. He was being held at the Hillsborough Regional Juvenile Detention Center in the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

Moore is back in the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. However, he was taken to another facility outside of Hillsborough County.

The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice will conduct a separate internal investigation regarding the escape.

This remains an active criminal investigation by the Tampa Police Department.
