Elderly Man Killed by Hit and Run Driver in Lake County

Troopers would like the public’s help in tracking down the driver of a pick-up truck and struck and killed a Lake County man on Saturday as he walked his dog on Deal Drive near Carnoustie Court 7:00 pm.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said that Stephen Edward Toner, Sr., 68 of Mount Plymouth, was walking his dog southbound on the east shoulder of Deal Road on the grass shoulder when a pick-up truck, traveling northbound on Deal Drive, left the roadway and struck Toner.

Witnesses told troopers that the driver of a mid-size green pick-up truck backed up and then left the scene.  The driver of the truck is unknown as this time.

Toner was taken to Waterman Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact FHP at 407-737-2213.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
